Airport Security Helpful Tips
As you may know, there have been recent changes to carry-on baggage requirements to all flights departing from and arriving in the U.S. Here are some tips to help make sure you don't lose your favorite hand lotion while going through airport security.
- Find out what to pack in your luggage. The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) has adjusted its ban on liquids, aerosols and gels. Travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in one-quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag. The zip-top bag will be placed in a separate bin at the security check-point to be x-rayed. Additionally, all passengers are required to remove their shoes so they can be x-rayed along with carry-on luggage.
- Some cosmetics are permitted. The items allowed are up to the discretion of security so it is recommended you pack them in your checked baggage.
- Some baby food is allowed. A small amount of baby formula/breast milk is allowed if a baby or small child is traveling with you.
- A small amount of liquid or gel medicine is allowed. The prescription must match the passenger's ticket and non-prescription items such as saline solution are also allowed.
- Some gel-filled products are allowed. These items include gel-filled bras, prosthetics or wheelchair cushions.
- Electronic equipment are still allowed on board. These items include cell phones, laptop computers, iPods, but all will be checked at the security checkpoint.
For a comprehensive and up-to-date list of permitted and prohibited items, please visit the Transportation Safety Administration web site. Remember, these requirements are for domestic flights only. Additionally, each airline and the country of destination may have additional search requirements. You may also want to check the appropriate sources before you pack for your trip.
